Tea, is the most widely drink consumed in the world after water – so says Wikipedia.
Having grown up in a family of loyal tea lovers who prefer to have tea, not in cuppas but rather tall glasses , sometimes , it makes me think that , we Indians really, have something for the products – “Made in China “. As far as popular perceptions go – some like, some don’t like, some can’t do without – but none can vouch to ignore them. Such is the Power of all things – Chinese.
Yes! You guessed right. Tea did originate in South West China, as a medicinal drink and gradually spread throughout, in various forms. From a being a mark of recreation in Tang Dynasty to adorning the British Courts during the marriage of Catherine of Braganza to Charles II ; from leading the Boston Tea Party that lead to the American revolution to the illegal trade that led to the Opium Wars . This drink has seen it all !
So , sitting , in the world’s second largest tea producing , consuming and exporting countries, that rides high on Assam, Darjeeling , Tetley and Typhoo , a country whose streets are dotted with ubiquitous tea stall at every possible sight , it’s really not an easy task to choose a Tea Joint .
Tea Village Café – My Expectations are really high when I decide on you!
I go shopping to the Reliance Store in Bandra West and notice it, just outside. It’s on one of the dream locations any restaurateurs can think of. In the Heart of Bandra. You step inside and just can’t restrain from smiling on yourself, for spotting such a good place in the hustle bustle of one of the noisiest crossroads , world famous for street shopping .
Their Staff – really very good , smartly dressed , agile and cheerful, who would immediately come to you and offer you the best possible seats, within seconds . Before you settle down and start observing the walls and the lady with cups on her entire body, the Menu Cards arrive- and trust me they are as good as coffee books or Photography paperbacks .
Food served, is what one would exactly like to go for with Tea, the main purpose being, to enjoy the aroma , taste and after taste of Tea. The food is neither Spicy nor bland. Just the right taste. We tried :-
- Cheese Fondue with really good vegetables.
- Scotch Potato Burger
- Potato Wedges
- Apple Pie Waffle
- Peach Mohito
- Chamomile Tea
